Ethica Comments on DOS Statement

Ethica posted their response to the DOS Statement on their website, to read it in full, click here. In part, the statement reads:

Ethica commends the Department for its openness about the process and the possibility of delays. We urge families who have not yet begun the process to seriously consider options in other countries. Parents who have been awaiting referrals will each have to weigh the risks of accepting a referral in the months to come.

Ethica is in the unique position of having membership in JCICS but not as an agency – this allows them to participate in JCICS meetings and be included in US Government – Agency meetings. As an outside advocacy group, they have a valuable perspective on this situation. We encourage all PAP’s to bookmark their site and consider Ethica’s advice seriously. 1. Even better… Ethica posted on 1/31/08 that they have requested that the DOS seek a definitive answer from the DIA re: what will happen to in process families on Sept 1, 2008 should the MOU not be renewed by then. It seems they’re getting clarification on the definition of “in process” (dossier logged in? referral in hand? etc). I’m extremely encouraged to find someone is asking these questions and hope the DOS will work to get these answers for understandably worried PAPs.

  2. Thanks for pointing that out Amy – it wasn’t there yesterday when I posted. I think Ethica is doing a very good job of staying on top of things and representing the concerns of PAPs.

  3. Thank you, Amy! I’m so happy that a reputable advocacy organization like Ethica is seeking clarification on this. I would hope that their request will be given attention, as opposed to individual requests from PAPs…
