According to the Tucson Citizen:
Commonwealth Adoptions closing in Tucson, elsewhere
The board has made a decision to phase out,” President Marina Mayhew said on Tuesday.
She said no new families are being accepted as clients, but those already in the adoption process, which includes about five to 10 in Tucson, will still be served.
“We will make every effort to fulfill their needs,” she said. “I want to emphasize we are a very ethical organization. We are still a licensed agency and we are still here working.”
Concerned clients can call the main office at 327-7574.
Commonwealth Adoptions International was denied Hague accreditation/approval in May 2008.

That link is not up to date. Children’s Hope International has been denied Hague also. They are appealing
I am one of the families in the Vietnam program with I600 approval but without a G&R. We are currently making plans to sort this mess out, and I mean MESS. You can follow our blog at http://www.harwells.org, if you are interested.
I’m so sorry Michelle. hang in there!
I hope this doesn’t post twice….

I have no problem with the link; maybe they fixed it.
Michelle, I hope you can complete your adoption smoothly! I’ll be thinking of you.
It is odd that in the article she includes Nepal as a country that will not allow adoptions for Americans.
Nepal held up adoptions from all countries the last year and did not take on any new cases for several months, probably due to the extreme political turmoil of ousting the King and putting the mostly Maoist government in place; but they are now processing the old cases and have put new adoption rules in place. Adoptions are expected to start up again once they finish with the back log. Several agencies such as Holt as starting new Nepal programs.
Nepal has had extreme pressure from several of the embassies to process the cases, not the other way around as in Guat & Vietnam.
(Not that it is easy to adopt from Nepal- just she had her info all wrong)
Does anyone find it odd that they grossed nearly 9 million dollars (8.8) in 2006. What kinds of expenses could cause an agency grossing that much money to fall bankrupt just 2 years later? Are you guys aware their top paid employee made $218K? Wow. Thats a lot of money.
type: Commonwealth Adoptions” into the line at this link to pull up their 990 forms IF you’re interested in looking into this more.
If I were doing business with them, I’d definitely want to know.

Mess doesn’t sum it up correctly! We were issued a NOID because the BF lied to the CIS about allowing his daughter to be adopted, yet he signed the papers. We are less than 2 weeks away from our deadline (August 20th) for an appeal and we have 4 working days in which to get the stuff mailed. The BF is still flip-flopping even as of August 8th. Without his final decision our case is at a complete halt!
